I am reading Captivated, coauthored by John and Stasi Eldredge. This book has been around for awhile and has inspired many, including myself, to reexamine who God says woman are, and their purpose- God’s crown of Creation, the essence of God’s beauty, who can fully become alive through the Rescuer- Jesus. John and Stasi encourage their readers to share this freedom for woman, so I gathered some of their truths that I gleaned, comparing the truths to the women at the cross and tomb. These truths from the book, Captivating, and from the word of God, are just as true for the woman of today. Enjoy today’s blog and and have a beautiful Easter with your family!
Many loyal women followed Jesus to the cross. Some of the woman watching from a distance, but His closest followers were Mary, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the Zebedee sons.
"There were also many women there, looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him, among whom were May Magdalene and Marth the mother of James and Joseph and the mother of the sons of Zebedee." Matthew 27:55-56
These women watched Jesus who they dearly loved die a gruesome death; Their hearts breaking. They followed Jesus during his life, caring for him every inch of the way. After the Sabbath, they went to his tomb/cave to lavish him with love- anointing him with perfumes and spices. However, they discovered the stone rolled away from his tomb… Jesus had completed his Father’s task on this earth telling the world about His Father’s Kingdom and dying on the cross. Jesus died taking on the sins of the world so others would believe in Him and have access to His Father’s Kingdom. Jesus had risen from the dead and appeared to Mary, and later his disciples, before He returned to Heaven.
Mary was weeping outside of the tomb, Jesus met Mary and said,
“Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away tell me where you have laid him and I will take him away. Jeus said to her, “Mary”.. She turned and said to him in Aramaic, Rabbooni, which means teacher, Jesus said to her, Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father, but go to my bothers and say to them I am ascending to my Father and your Father to my God and your God. Mary Magdalene went to the disciples and told them she has seen the Lord and said these things to her. " John 20:15-18

Skull of Golgotha -Where the Cross might have been in Jerusalem
Jesus appeared to Mary. He knew her name and gave her the job of telling his disciples of the miracle of the resurrection. What a privledge. She had experienced Jesus’s healing from seven demons earlier in her life. We too, can be known by the Savior of the World, healed from our past or present shame and be redeemed, carrying out our purpose here on Earth. Mary was captivated by Jesus and loved him with all of her heart. God has given us the essence of his beauty by being created by Him as His crown of Creation- Woman.. In the beginning in the garden of Eden, Eve and Adam’s disobeyed God and listened to Satan’s lie and ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge. This caused a curse for all women and men until Jesus returns again and brings the new Kingdom on Earth. The good news is that the Savior of the World, who created woman to be the crown of his Creation, can collide with the inner Beauty of knowing Him. Then outflows a beautiful peaceful daughter of the King at peace and rest .. We then can offer others peace and rest.. Jesus.. only with the Spirit of the Living God living and dwelling in us can we truly be Captivating to others. Offering just ourselves is the not the Redeemed Eve but living in the Shadow of Eve’s curse- controlling, manipulating, striving for our agenda, not offering the peace, rest, gentleness and authentic love that the Spirit of God in us can deliver. Living in the shadow of Eve’s curse looks like hiding in your shame or manipulating and controlling others. Redeemed Eve’s make the world a more beautiful place to live because they are living free- seen by their Savior, nutured by His word and love, treasured, believing His word is true..
