Olives + Branches

November 22, 2017

Thanksgiving gives us such a great opportunity to really embrace all those we hold so dear.  In the book of psalms, it says,

“Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine within your house.  Your children like olive plants around your table.”

I love this scripture, so as you see.. I have olive branches in a glass vase as my centerpiece. It reminds me of my “olive plants” that the Lord graciously gave me. We all have olive plants- "Your own children" can include your nephews, nieces, cousins or friends that we can pour love into their souls.  So, before all the festivities begin tomorrow, we must prepare our hearts.

Whether on a long walk or while you prepare the food today and tomorrow-pray for all who will be around your table.  I will pray for my heart to truly listen to each person I greet tomorrow. If we are intentional with our desires we most likely won’t miss out on the opportunities we have to invest in our “olive plants.”  Believe me, theses olive plants grow up so fast.. I know you young moms think we just say that, but it is true!  I can’t even believe my first grandbaby is three and my second is one year old. The best gift you can give your children are your prayers.  Ask God to give you a heart of prayer and delight in praying for their future.

My eight “olive plants” won’t all be with me this thanksgiving, but I will pray for them as they invest in their spouses' families and expand their traditions.  One of our traditions on Thanksgiving day before our meal is that we read a devotion and share bible verses that are dear to our hearts.  My verse this year will be,

Therefore, I urge you, Brethern (Sharon),, in view of God’s mercy to offer your bodies as living sacrifices holy and pleasing to God- this is your spiritual act of worship.” Romans 12:1

This verse is special to me because this year I have committed to a small group of ladies through Primemovers ( Ministry through Chip Ingram) to truly know my primary spiritual gift and strengths and walk out my holy ambition for God.   Sidenote-- I have shared with you in one of my other blogs of a dream of mine.  Hopefully, by next year the dream will become reality.  So, if you think of me, please pray this dream will be aligned with God's will and come into fruition with a supportive team in place… Thank you….

Back to the verse.. living sacrifices.. pleasing to God .. spiritual act of worship.. We are worshipping God always by living in a worthy manner, pleasing God by valuing his children. The Lord gave us these precious olive plants.. We are worshiping God as we listen, laugh and value each moment we have with our children.

Before the festivities begin, take a walk.. pray for each of your olive plants as well as yourself. Ask God to open your heart to hear and see what He desires for you to see and hear. Intentionality again is so important to prepare your heart to be all that God wants you to be. My desire is to take in the day by listening a little harder..to be in the moment.; Laughing at ourselves, playing corn hole and other games..

Ending the day with hugs and kisses.. feeling so full .. until the next time.. we didn’t miss a moment to love on our “olive plants”..  we lived with intentionality in spiritual worship pleasing our God…

As believers, we are grafted into the Olive Tree.  Remember, salvation first came to the Jews, then salvation was offered to the Gentiles.  For further study, read Romans 11:11-24 We are all part of the tree.  I am so thankful for God's  lovingkindness.

"But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in the house of God.  I trust in the loving kindness of God forever and ever." Psalm 52:8
