Jesus our Prince of Peace

December 7, 2016

In every moment including this beautiful time of the Advent Season, we have the opportunity to know the peace of Jesus.  During this busy time with with festive gatherings, shopping for our loved ones and giving to those in need we must keep our time with Jesus a priority to experience His Peace.  We want to know His Peace in the midst of all the activities this season.   We get distracted and and we don’t spend the necessary time with Him.  He alone offers us true peace and joy

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”

Isaiah 26:3

How do we find that peace?

Peace just doesn’t happen.  We have to set our mind on Him and meditate in His word---

We can experience His peace by being in His presence.  Being filled with His Spirit..

We then are equipped to experience His peace in every situation.  He Alone can give us the Peace to equip us to offer ourselves His peace in the loss of a loved one(s), loneliness as well to be the peace in tangible ways to others.  My quiet time with Jesus, the Prince of Peace starts in the morning with His word and my journal.  I think the morning is the best time so I can read His word to fix my gaze upon Him.  I love the acronym that I learned in my Discipleship material called The Journey written by Randy Pope, pastor of Perimeter Church.

Pray first and ask God to open your eyes to glean from His word before you begin your reading for the day. “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” Psalm 119:18

Read- The Scripture- I am Reading the Daily Walk Bible by Walk through the Bible

Ask Questions such as What is the issue? What is the flow of thought? Look up words for understanding and ask yourself what should I respond? Repent of?

Interpret the Scriptures-  looking up words and reading the scriptures in context

Summarize - Journal the scriptures and personal prayers and applications

Engage with God- Now, pray and talk to God asking Him help you apply His word and giving you understanding, faith and obedience.  He will give you the power to act on His word

I write down the scriptures that stood out to me in my journal.  Remember, the word of God is living, so it speaks to you differently every time.  So, journaling the scriptures that the Lord revealed to you helps you remember what you have read.   Then, you are aware of His word to live it out that day engaging with God.  Trials will come and if you don’t spend time with Jesus we aren’t equipped to respond to the trials in a godly, peaceful way.  And I know that is our desire to do live with peace with everyone.

Standing on His word, we receive power and His peace through believing His promises.

God’s promises are true that aren’t based on feelings.  Here are a few promises offering His peace that we can stand on:

“When a man’s ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.”  Proverbs 16:7

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

John 14:27

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6-7

This past week, a few peaceful highlights seeing the peace of God were spending time with our grandchildren.  We took our sweet Penelope to a tree farm to cut down a cypress tree for our home.  My sweet husband, Mike cut down a beautiful 8 ft. cedar tree.  While cutting the tree, Penelope told her Papa to “be careful.” She so enjoyed seeing her Papa get dirty while later giggling at the bunnies on the farm.  It is in these moments that our Spirit awakes and know what really is important. —seeing pure joy in the peaceful moments of the awe of a Child’s excitement..

So, in the crazy of the fun shopping for our family and friends and waiting in long lines for a cup of an awesome holiday latte..  Remember the true giver of Peace in this Season and everyday.

It is Jesus, The Prince of Peace.

Remember in every moment of the day if you put your faith in Jesus,...

He is with You-

God is with you in every moment to you to offer His peace to us.

Let’s gaze into our Heavenly Father’s world and look for those who need to experience the Peace of God in their lives.  It might be your smile and patience while waiting in the long line.  I know we all love to be loved.  You never know what someone else is going through.  Give more hugs, smiles, love and the gift of His Peace to all this season and through out the upcoming year.  When we receive His Peace and draw near to Him for comfort we can give His peace away to those we encounter daily.  Listen to Amy Grant song, Emmanuel, I have included the song on my Praise page.
