Look into the Mirror

November 16, 2016

In Christ, we are a new creation.  The Holy Spirit is abiding in us.  “The Holy Spirit carries the word into our dead hearts and causes us to see the truth of Christ as we never have and and we are given life through the word of truth-the word of God, the gospel.” (John Piper’s Desiring God Message- “Receive with Meekness the Implanted Word”)

Because of this regenerated heart, we can discern God’s word and live it out. We must not just hear and read what the Bibles says, but carry it out.  I know in my life, it is the “carrying out daily” that is the struggle.  We can have quiet times with worship and reading His truth, but we walk out the door and forget who we are in Christ.  I think we must daily look into the mirror and remind ourselves of who we are in Christ.

“But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.  For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.  For he looks at himself and forgets what he was like.  But, the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty and perseveres being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.” James 1:23-25

After spending time each morning in His Truth,

Look into the mirror and begin each day reminding ourselves two realities:

First, Christ was forsaken on the Cross for me.  He was completely innocent, but Jesus was sent into this world on a mission to reconcile God’s children who were full of sin back to a HOLY God.

Second, In Christ, I am …

God’s Child

Christ’s friend

Belong to God

Member of Christ’s body

Sealed by God

Citizen of Heaven

Holy and Blameless

In Him

Salt and Light

God’s Coworker

Minister of reconciliation

Seated with Christ in the heavenly realms

God’s workmanship

Dearly Loved

New Creation

And many many more….

We don’t tell ourselves these truths enough.  These truths can help us to be successful doers, not getting stuck because of failure to truly believe who we are in Christ.   We must make it our practice to remind ourselves who we are in Christ, so that we can be the Church - the doers of the Word.

Have a beautiful day thanking God for His sacraficial love and who you are in Christ..
