God is with us…
Happy September!! September is such a great month with school starting..football..fire pits..new beginnings.. my birthday.. and the unexpected journeys that God leads us on.. those can be both easy and hard… Our God is with us always.. His home is within our hearts for those that believe upon Him and His son, Jesus. He goes with us everywhere. He is with us in every situation.. Know that he is with you in this beautiful fall season…
God is with us….
Whether you are beginning a new job, getting married, lost a loved one, struggling with an illness or injury, learning to be a new mom or an empty nester like myself.
God is with us…
Let’s look back at the story of Joseph in the book of Genesis. Joseph was born to Rachel and Jacob. After Joseph’s birth, Rachel said, ‘God has taken away my reproach.” She desired children and was jealous of Leah, Jacob’s other wife.. I am sure I would have been too.. I wouldn’t have liked the multiple wife thing.. But, God is sovereign and His ways are not our ways as well as His thoughts are not our thoughts. Laban, Jacob’s future father in law had required Jacob to work seven years to have Rachel as his wife. However, Laban, Jacob’s father in law had deceived Jacob by giving him Leah, Laban’s firstborn instead of Rachel whom Jacob loved in marriage. Jacob completed the week with Leah and Laban gave Rachel to Jacob because he agreed to work for him another seven years… ugh…So, I give this background to describe Jacob’s persevering love for Rachel. Jacob had the same strong affection for their offspring
Joseph and Benjamin!
God is with us…
Joseph was very special and had a unique journey and calling upon his life. His brothers were very jealous of him and rightly so. I am sure they knew and witnessed their Father’s love for Joseph and their younger brother, Benjamin..
Joseph was given the gift of receiving and interpreting dreams. Joseph had two different God given dreams that described sheaves bowing down to a sheaf and another on with the sun, moon and eleven stars bowing down to him. The brothers were furious at the meaning of the dream of them bowing down to their brother. Joseph was also given a beautiful colorful robe. the coat of many colors from his father, Jacob. The brothers schemed and thought about killing him, but they resorted to throwing him in a pit. But, Reuben who had more mercy for Jacob saw a group of Ishmaelite’s and the brothers decided to sell Joseph for 20 shekels of silver as a slave back to Egypt. The brothers then took Jacob’s coat of many colors and dipped it into goat’s blood and told their father Joseph had been killed by wild animals. Jacob was devastated! His wife, Rachel had passed, now his son, Joseph…
God is with us…..
So, in summary, Jacob was taken to Egypt as a slave.. But take a look at God’s provision and purpose.. What men meant for evil, God meant for Good…
God was with Joseph…
“But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prisoners." Genesis 39:21
“The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph’s charge.. because the Lord was with him. And whatever he did the Lord made it succeed.” Genesis 39:25
Interpreting the Pharaoh’s cupbearer’s and the baker’s dreams
(The cupbearer was supposed to remember Joseph once he was restored to his positon as cupbearer)
Joseph was forgotten for two years in prison
The Pharaoh had dreams that couldn’t be interrupted but the Chief cupbearer FINALLY remembered Joseph and told Pharaoh of his wisdom from God and the interpretation Joseph had given him in prison.
Joseph was made an overseer over Pharaoh’s home and the people of Egypt
“And Pharaoh said to his servants, ’Can we find a man like this, in whom is the Spirit of God? Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has shown you all this, there is one so discerning and wise as you are. You shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command. Only as regards the throne will I be greater than you. And Pharaoh said to Joseph, See I have set you over all the land of Egypt. The Pharaoh took his signet ring from his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand and clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain about his neck.” Genesis 41: 38-42
God was with Joseph….
“Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh. “For” he said, “God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father’s house.” The name of second he called Ephraim, ‘For God has mad me fruitful in land of my affliction.” Genesis 41:51-52
Brothers came from Canaan to Egypt to get food due to the famine
Joseph forgives his brothers
Joseph brings his entire household with Pharaoh’s blessing to live in the land of Goshen in Egypt.
“So Joseph said to his brothers, “come near to me, please.” And they came near. And he said, “I am your brother, Joseph, who you sold into Egypt. And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. ..and God sent be before you to preserve for a remnant on earth and to keep alive for you many survivors. So it not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord over of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt.’’
Wow, what a beautiful story of God being with Joseph.. Like Joseph, God is with us.. We may not understand the circumstances we may journey in.. But, we must know that God is with us…Always remember his plan is better than ours.. There is one beautiful masterpiece that God is painting… Embrace, stand firm and loves those God has placed around you in each season..
Make beautiful colors in God’s masterpiece….
