God's Love Is Like a Hurricane

September 7, 2016

We arrived at the beach a few days before Hurricane Hermine made landfall east of us.  I watched the sea stir with more and more power as the storm drew closer to shore.  As I was listening for God and waiting to hear his voice, one of my favorite songs, “How He Loves” by Dave Crowder, came to mind.

"How He Loves"

He is jealous for me,

Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree

Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy.

When all of a sudden,

I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,

And I realize just how beautiful You are,

And how great Your affections are for me.

And, oh, how He loves us, so,

Oh, How He loves us,

How He loves us so

Yeah, he loves us

Woah, how He loves us

Woah, how He loves us

Woah, how He loves

So we are His portion

and He is our prize,

Drawn to redemption

by the grace in His eyes,

If His grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.

And Heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss,

And my heart turns violently inside of my chest,

I don’t have time to maintain these regrets,

When I think about the way…

That He loves us,

Oh, how He loves us,

Oh, how He loves us,

Oh, how He loves.

Yeah, He loves us,

Oh, how He loves us,

Oh, how He loves us,

Oh, how He loves……

I truly was moved by this beautiful song at my daughter and son in law’s wedding. The song was sung by Rachel and Dimitri’s friends, Chris and Alison.  We worshipped with heads bowed, my daughter swaying with arms raised, tears formed in our eyes as we worshipped our God that loves like a hurricane.  How beautiful was the scene in the green space surrounded by tall pines at Serenbe..

Trees similar to those of Serenbe

A hurricane is beyond the word powerful.  It is fierce, with strong currents along with rain and wind.  God loves us like a hurricane.  His love for us stirs in us deep in our soul.  His love floods us with passion that we can’t contain with tears and joy.  We can’t help but bend to His power and love.

“If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking. And Heaven meets Earth like a unforeseen kiss. And my heart turns violently inside my chest, I don’t have time to maintain these regrets When I think about the way, That He loves Me.”

Receiving His love and mercy we can be His workers on this earth.

He is jealous for us and loves us like a Hurricane.. We the church have the opportunity to be fellow workers.  We are God’s field sowing, planting, watering and sometimes reaping.

For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.”

 I Cor. 3:9

“So neither he who plants not he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.”  I Cor 3:7

As we move out in the field this week, let’s dwell on His love and affection.

He causes the growth in others.  Jesus is the Foundation of the church.

We have the opportunity to build on this foundation with gold, silver and precious stone, or we can choose wood, hay and straw.  In the end, when we stand before Jesus we will be rewarded with what is not burned up.

Daily, be consumed with His Love and Affection.. Let His love stir in you the power of a Hurricane through worship, gratitude journals and His word..  Hold on to His love, plant and water in the field He has for us.

“He who plants and he who water are one and each will receive a reward.”  I Cor 3;8

“If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives he will receive a reward."

 I Cor. 3:4

The affection of a sweet kiss from my sweet Penelope…

Just a sweet reminder of Oh how He Loves us..
