Delight in God's Word

May 4, 2016

Spending time in God’s word and seeking Him in conversational prayer each morning has brought me into a richer relationship with Jesus.  We can’t grow with Christ if we don’t spend time with him.

One of my favorite speakers and friend, Jackie Kendall says, "You can't live off someone

else's plate.  If we only go to church on Sunday, but we don’t spend time alone with Jesus, we can’t expect to grow in an authentic relationship with Him..  Relationships need nurturing, listening, giving and growing with one another.

Jesus wants a personal relationship with us. When we open the Bible and begin to read God’s living word, we begin to know Him.  As we spend more and more time with Him in His word, we grow in love with Him….

God is delighted to spend time with us because He loves us so much. It’s an incredible privilege to experience relationship with an amazing God!  The world and all its enticements cannot satisfy us like this special relationship with Jesus.

For myself, I start the day with coffee, prayer and His word.  I pray to God asking Him to open my heart and lead me as I read.  I underline in my Bible, write names and dates of family and friends God leads me to pray for that morning. I journal art next to the text and write verses down in my journal to ponder during the day.  After reading His word and praying to God, I am ready for the day.

My heart and my renewed mind are fixed on Jesus.  I look forward to living for Him and seeing the opportunities to encourage, love and serve others.  Without this time with Jesus, my mind is not renewed, my heart is distracted, and I am not focused on Jesus.

“Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”  Colossians 3:16

Spending time with God…. fixing our eyes on Him…. not living on anyone else’s plate. Not our Pastor’s plate, not our Bible study leader’s plate, not our parents plate, but our own personal walk with God.  Yes, we learn from these leaders and apply their teachings to our lives; but the true blessing is to develop a beautiful relationship with Jesus daily.

God sings over us; he loves us so much!!  Don’t waste time. Pursue Jesus personally.

We can stray so easily, we need His word to be our anchor.  As we spend more and more time with Jesus, we learn His word and the way to truly walk with Him..  We grow passionate about the time we spend with Him…

Let’s be like the Oaks of Righteousness, deepening our roots in the True River of Life, Jesus!
